It has been made clear by our local representatives that there will be no further investigation into creating a Haldimand police force. It became a topic of discussion during our last municipal elections and everal candidates and now elected officials have vowed to look into this posibility. It is somewhat discouraging to read in the paper that fellow councillors are shooting one of theri own for this. Craig Grice was merely persuing one of his election promises when he brought forth the motion to investigat this. Tony Dalimonte, Lorne Boyko and Buck Sloat seemed to think that is was not important to sort of fulfill an election promise.
I agree that is most likely going to be way to expensive to re-create our own police force, but a large number of residents deemed it to be important to elect Craig Grice and re-elect Marie Trainer. I think it should be about keeping at least some of your promises.
On the other hand, voting down this motion did save the tax payer some money that would have been spent on a study that would have really been obsolete. I think some of the criticism of our concillors could have been toned down a bit.
I have written on this subject before and for those of you interested:
